So I have come across a huge predicament with my transition to Gluten-Free. FINDING A GOOD BREAD! For those of you who have not had a gluten free bread loaf I can assure you that there are some amazing ones and some really, really bad ones.I have tried many, but today I will focus on English muffins. But rest assured, my search for a good Gluten-Free bread is an ongoing task.
Our two competitors today are: Trader Joe's English Muffin VS. Food By George English Muffins
Do NOT be fooled by the "Moist and Flavorful with a Light Texture" line on the package. I have one word for that; LIES. These come in 4 pack (I believe they have changed the packaging recently) and they look like English Muffins on steroids. They are like 2 1/2 English Muffins put together. The consistency is very dry and when you cut them in half the bread kind of crumbles and makes a huge mess. The taste was eh, I felt like I was eating a piece of paper. Nothing really amazing about this product but that it was gluten free and it was at Trader Joe's which makes it a bit more affordable. The calories per muffin is about 210 which to me is not really worth it. I do not think the product is worth the price at all, it really makes things harder to make a transition this huge when you have products like this on the market. TRADER JOE'S STEP IT UP!!! 2 stars.. two very sad stars. :(
Food By George English Muffins
Ok guys, this one was THE winner. Out of all the Gluten-Free breads I have ever tasted this English Muffin was amazing. I think even someone who isn't gluten free would love this. The bread was moist and flavorful (and I tried the plain), the consistency mimicked regular bread, it toasted beautifully, nothing crumbled, everything stayed buttery and succulent, a bit high on the calories too (210 per muffin.. but totally worth it). The price is a bit on the high end, about $7.15 for 4 muffins, but you will be glad you spent it. http://www.foodsbygeorge.com/enmuffins.html 5 stars!!!
